An annual Portland experience, the Rose City Yarn Crawl is a four-day event for knitters to explore the many knitting Shops in and around Portland. 2012 marks our third year of celebrating Portland as a yarn and knitting destination.

Join us from 10 am to 6 pm on March 1st – 4th for your chance to win one of 20 Prize Baskets and explore all nineteen participating Shops. In addition to offering the chance to win a prize basket, each shop will also offer Rose City Yarn Crawl participants a special free pattern inspired by the City of Roses.

By popular request (from adults watching kids at School’s Out, SCRAP’s In make awesome projects), SCRAP is offering all ages workshops! Participants 12 and over may attend on their own, while kids 11 and younger may attend with a grown-up participant. Classes are one hour and will include an introduction to SCRAP as a resource, as well as all the materials needed to make the project at hand.

Cost: $5 per person ($4.50 for SCRAP members)

Create wire-wrapped rings using a mandrel and easy wire wrapping techniques to nest a single bead in the bezel of the ring. You'll leave this class with a handful of rings - as many as you can create in 2 & 1/2 hours. Materials will be provided but if you have beads or stones you'd like to make into a ring, bring them to class.

Beginners are welcome.

If you’ve been afraid to try wire work before, or if you’ve tried and things just don’t look quite right, this is the class for you! You will learn the basic tools and techniques required for quality wire work.

This class is designed for beading beginners. You’ll learn stringing, finishing, and design techniques for completing necklaces and bracelets. There will be discussion about stringing, Softflex* finishing, and clasp choice. Students will complete and take home one bracelet or necklace in class!

Based on the “Fluffy Beads” pattern designed by Laura Shea and published in the Dec 2011 Bead & Button magazine. I’ve modified it using less expensive basic supplies & then weird embellishments to add to the mysterious vibe of the piece. The pattern can be difficult to follow from the magazine, so we’ll walk through it together with suggestions I have added to make it different. This piece uses Right Angle Weave stitch and embellishment. Some beading experience is helpful, but this class is OK for beginners.
