Urban Craft Uprising is Seattle's largest indie craft show! At UCU, now in its eighth year, fans can choose from a wide variety of hand-crafted goods, including clothing of all types, jewelry, gifts, bags, wallets, buttons, accessories, aprons, children's goods, toys, housewares, paper goods, candles, kits, art, food, and much, much more.

Combine technical skills and rule breaking to foster creativity -- learn to hem pants, adjust side seams for fit, add darts or elastic, adjust the armcye, insert a gusset and techniques for refashioning garments. This course is as varied as the garments brought to class, encouraging Seamsters to come back with new alterations time and again!

Learn to alter paper patterns to your measurements. Bring a paper pattern in your size to class and we will assist you in your pattern alterations. Learn techniques used to lengthen or shorten patterns as well as accommodate your unique proportions. Gain an understanding of grading lines and how to use them to your advantage and make simple fit and style changes. Bring preshrunk fabric with you and get assistance with layout and cutting.

The perfect way to start sewing -- or to get back into it! Learn techniques for sewing French Seams, Elastic smocking, lace appliqué, sewing with the bobbin thread, using the feed dogs to ease as well as gathering and ruffling feet. In a French seam, the raw edges of the fabric are fully enclosed for a neat finish. Machine smocking is a technique used to gather fabric so that it can stretch. Appliqué involves pieces of fabric, embroidery, or other materials which are sewn onto another piece of fabric to create designs, patterns or pictures. Learn all this and so much more!
