These classes are suitable for youth artists age 6 to 18
These art workshops run from Tuesdays from 1-3pm each week.
This year the studio will be offering series of media experiences so youth artists should plan on attending all sessions of a series.
Space is limited, youth must be pre-registered for all workshops.

Come explore the arts in this Tuesday Midday Afternoon Workshop designed for youth ages 6-18 (Youth will be divided up based on age and skill level each week).

9/14 & 9/21: Pop Art Drawing & Painting Series
Leader: Joy Leising
Pop Art is an art movement that began in the 1950's. This art form challenged tradition removing isolating an object or combining it with other objects out of context as a symbol. Artists of this era used this technique to express personal and political views. In this 2- week fine art workshop youth artists will draw and paint with acrylics through this period.
9/28 & 10/5: TEXTURE PRINTING 101
Leader: Audrey Whitlatch
In this 2 week course students will learn new ways of interpreting surface by using a variety of printmaking techniques to capture textures of found materials. Students will experiment and print with & on everyday materials to learn fun new ways of making affordable art. *Students are encouraged to bring a T-shirt &/or other articles to print with or on.
9/28: Learn how to make surface rubbings to obtain a solid understanding of pattern and texture. Students will cut, glue and collage with found materials to create a design which will be sealed & allow to dry for use of printing in the next class.
10/5: Learn proper inking of the plate and a variety of hand printing techniques to transfer our designs from our plates to various types of papers & fabrics. Experiment with color and layering by using a variety of printing techniques captured in one print. Students will be encouraged to collaborate with each other to experiment with printing a variety of surfaces. *Each students print will be captured on fabric to be sewn into a class piece.
10/12, 10/19, 10/26: Day of the Dead Art Series
Dia de los Muertas is a Mexican holiday that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to celebrate and remember those who have died. Due to occurring shortly after Halloween the Day of the Dead is sometimes thought to be a similar holiday. Come learn about this cultural holiday in Mexico thru art! Each artist will learn about famous Mexican artists such as Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera while creating traditional Mexican artwork to honor Halloween & Day of the Dead.
Part 1: Day of the Dead Wire & Clay Sculpture
Part 2: Complete Sculptures & begin Rolled Paper Box Shrines
Part 3: Complete Shrines & finish with shadow box pins & felted Mexican flowers
11/2 & 11/9: Japanese Softies
Leader: Ellie Holzemer Russell
In this 2 week workshop artists will learn how to create Japanese softies. Soft creatures using fabric and sewing techniques! Softies!
Little stuffed animals, sweet treets, and adorable creatures are easy to make with a needle and thread and a little imagination! In this class you'll design and sew cute plush toys that you can give as a gifts or keep to admire. Softies are easy to make and a fun project for the beginning or experienced handsewer. You'll be inspired by all of the possibilites and want to make a whole collection!
11/16, 11/30 & 12/7 Comic book art!
