Silk Road Flowers by Far’ha presents “May Day!”

On May 5-6, 10am – 5 pm, Silk Road Flowers by Far’ha gathers the art and fine crafts of over a dozen artists at her studio located at 1833 NE 52nd Av, Portland, Oregon—just in time for Mother’s Day shopping!

Free admission, free drawing for gift basket, and kid-friendly, “May Day!” will also include artist demos by Setsuko Gion and Sylvia Emard.

Setsuko Gion demonstrates Japanese calligraphy and suminagashi (Japanese marbling), using papers she makes herself on Saturday-Sunday 11am – 1pm. Sylvia Emard demonstrates the steps involved in shibori, a Japanese technique for dying textiles Saturday and Sunday from 1pm-4pm.

Rebecca Conant, the “Far’ha” of Silk Road Flowers by Far’ha, makes fashion flowers using ribbonry and French-beaded technique and beaded jewelry. Missing the old-fashioned custom of giving flowers to loved ones on May Day inspired her to gather wonderfully crafted items for a joyous celebration of Spring, including: Sylvia Emard (shibori dyed silk scarves), Setsuko Gion (calligraphy & suminashi on hand-made paper), Jenelle Kathan (dichroic and fused glassworks), Heidi Leugers (hand-felted items), Deborah Moen (practical pottery), Judee Moonbeam (wearable art), Tonia Twigger McConnell (photography/note cards), Roberta Palmer (concrete leaves & polymer leaf-inspired jewelry), Annette Riplinger (watercolor/note cards), Elisabeth Sullivan (pottery/birdhouses), Kris Zorko (Note Totes), and more!
