Day 4: Ye Olde Toy Chest: Paper Toys and Games from Centuries Past
Instructor: Sarah Fagan
Ever wondered what kind of gifts children in the 1800s received for the holidays? Or what Colonial kids did for fun? Today we'll learn the history of some paper toys and games enjoyed by children in the Colonial, Pioneer, and Victorian eras. Projects include Paper Theatres with movable puppets, wheel games called volvelles, and optical illusion spinning toys known as thaumatropes. Take home your own veritable toy chest at the end of the day and dazzle family and friends with your knowledge of amusement in days of yore!
