Two-day Workshops
Tuesday and Thursdays the studio will be offering
two-day workshops from 2-4pm.
Ages 6-14 years old
Participants in afternoon classes will be provided with a healthy snack.
There is a maximum of 10 artists per group.
Wait list when classes are full.
All art materials provided.

Crayon Encaustic
Create your own encaustic masterpiece!
What a great use of old broken crayons that no one wants to use!
Encaustic painting is a specific type of painting utilizing hot wax, often beeswax.
Pigments are added and then the wax is applied to a surface.
Metal tools and special brushes can be used before the wax cools,
or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax that has cooled.
Encaustics can also be sculpted and/or utilized in collage, as well as painted.
Come in and learn about this method dating as far back to ancient Egypt.

Learn encaustic painting with Linda Womack, author of Embracing Encaustic: Learning to Paint with Beeswax.

No experience is necessary for this quick start wax collage and painting class. Class will run from 10 am - 4 pm each day on August 16 & 17. Cost is $280 for both days and all supplies will be provided.

Day 1: We'll start by learning the basics of wax painting and fusing by making colorful paper collages with beeswax instead of glue. We'll practice techniques including layering, transparency and wax stamping. Next you'll learn to paint using techniques involving dripping, scraping and textured finishes using wax in an assortment of vivid colors.

Day 2: Next we'll concentrate on building on the skills you learned on the first day of class, but we'll go well beyond the basics. I'll do several demos of intermediate techniques and help you try each of them yourselves. I'll share my secrets on how to make image transfers, use stencils and add lots of texture to your waxy masterpieces.

Additional information will be emailed to each student at least two weeks prior to the class date along with a list of optional supplies. Space is limited to 6 students so classes fill quickly.

*If you have taken this class, you can come in and use the studio and the materials for a small fee of drop in time plus a materials fee of $5 per hour in addition to our drop-in rate ($8/hour) unless you are a member.

Artists must call to schedule time in advance to ensure appropriate space for griddle and materials.

Learn the ancient art of encaustic painting. You will learn everything you need to know to get started on your own! You will learn basic skills and you will also explore a variety different techniques such as painting, building textures, collaging with paper and/or small ephemera, and several different mark making techniques.

Special notes and items to bring:

You may bring Personal paper ephemera to put into your piece but no supplies are required--all the necessities are included in the price of the class.
