Naturally Tarnish Your Jewelry using Eggs

| | | | | |
Sep 10 2008 - 6:30pm
Sep 10 2008 - 8:00pm
Description:

Have you ever wanted to create that “antiqued” jewelry look? If so, then this is the class for you! Students will make a sterling silver necklace with a charm and learn how to give it that antiqued-look (also called oxidizing) by using the sulfur in eggs. This is a natural way to oxidize your jewelry without chemicals. Traditional methods of oxidizing jewelry use strong smelling substances or harsh chemicals to darken the metal, but this is a fun and natural alternative!

All supplies included - no experience needed.

Sep 21 2008 - 5:00pm
Description:

If you want to get comfortable using basic jewelry making tools, wire, and store-bought findings and beads to create your own simple jewelry, this is the class for you!

At DIY Lounge at Collage, 4429 SE Woodstock, Portland, OR
Register on-line at www.diylounge.com or by calling 503-804-2526
Sunday, September 21st, 1-5 pm
Cost $38, includes all materials

With this introductory class, you'll learn to navigate the basic tools of beading and the bare bones of wire manipulation and using findings, chain, and nylon-coated beading wire to create your own beaded jewelry. We'll also talk about how to select beads and where to find them.

Students will have the use of basic tools during class, and will also have access to beads and base metal/surgical steel findings and a selection of beads - nothing to buy before class! Students are welcome to bring their won beads to work with. Students will get handouts and hands-on instruction, and will have time to make three projects in class - some students choose to do a necklace, bracelet, and earrings, though options are available for students who want to focus on earring or necklace construction.
