Learn the properties of wool and employ the mechanics of felting to create felted balls and buttons, a small pouch or eyeglasses case and more. You'll also get a brief history of felting, how to use a "resist," and more information on material sourcing. This class will arm you with the skills to make felt on your own turf! Adult class.
Sunday, January 24th and 31st, 12-2pm.
Cost: $60 + $10 materials fee due to the instructor at the 1st class.

Art Law Lecture

This workshop is for artists with questions about protecting their pieces. The workshop will provide a thorough explanation of copyrights, copyright law and how artists can protect themselves and market their work through various contracts that involve copyrights.
These include consignment agreements with galleries or any exhibition space, licensing and sales of artwork, and commissions.
Shaver will also discuss when and how an artist can use others' work (fair use), obtaining permissions to use work, how to research copyrights owned by others and how to register your own copyrights.

Ages 6 and older (6 year olds must be school ready)
Youth artists spend the first few minutes of class having a healthy snack and socializing.
This year the studio will be offering series of media experiences so youth artists should plan on attending all sessions of a series.
All materials will be provided.
Cost: $15 per session
Punch cards applicable!
We will pick up youth artists at Buckman Elementary Tuesdays-Thursdays. If you are interested in this option paperwork is available at the studio granting us permission to pick up your youth.

Hand Made Love
This after school workshop will consist of a multitude of Valentine Day card & gift making crafts! Making hand made cards using stamping , embossing & stain glass techniques, jewelry making , and felted heart scarf making. If you are looking for a fun after class where you can learn skills in card making , sewing & jewelry making in addition to making some awesome holiday gifts this is the class for you!

Youth Photography Class
Leader: Katharine Kimball Photographer Instructor

This is a course designed for beginning to intermediate photographer who is interested in learning how to operate a digital camera and understand basic compositional elements to eye catching photography. We will discuss the Rule of Thirds, different angles, backgrounds, proximity to subjects, etc. There will also be time spent on downloading, editing and selecting images.
This is a course primarily concentrating on the craft of photography and camera use, and not necessarily a computer software class on how to manipulate images in post production. The course aims to teach students how to use a camera, its different functions, and how to think and photograph with a discerning eye.
Class structure is focused on walk abouts where each student has a specific assignment to photograph near the studio gallery and also will incorporate some portrait photography of classmates.
Students will have their own point and shoot camera or be provided with one from 100th Monkey.
Extra batteries and spare digital media cards must be provided by students.
A materials fee to cover expenses for prints and ink could be charged.

Cut-out Animation

In this class students will be introduced to the wonderful world of animation through using cut out letters and shapes. Taking turns setting up scenes, students will build stories using wild imaginative creatures and mixing them with creative sentences or poems. These creations will be captured frame by frame on a 16mm bolex camera and then hand processed by the instructor. In the final class a collective animation will be complete for all to view!
This series has a $5 lab fee for materials.

Print Making Series
Over this 4 week workshop students will explore the history & art of print making through linoleum block carving , posada prints , mono prints, stamp carving & printing on fabric with freezer prints. Each artist will go away with basic knowledge of printing on paper and fabric in addition to the history of print making!
2/11 : Posada Prints & Linoleum block carving
2/18 : Complete Posada Prints & Linoleum Blocks and start Mono Prints
2/25: Stamp making & freezer Prints
3/4 : Freezer Print Patches on Bags

On February 5, 2010 The 100th Monkey Studio will host an art opening for the February group show, Duets.The event will be from 6:00-9:00pm and is free and open to the public.During the evening there will be live music provided by local musicians, Scott Eave and Ronnie Taylor. This event is for all ages. The show will hang in the studio from 02/05/10-03/02/10.Artists participating in this show responded to the call for art focusing on Duets. Each piece is created in collaboration with two artists. Jennifer Mercede and Anna Todaro are the featured artists.Other artists in this show include Jessica Breedlove and Joshua Latham, Dayna Collins and Destree Rudolph, Jessica Cornelius and Junko Suzuki,Laura Poynor Daley and Beth Ann Short, Carli Davidson and Beth AnnShort, Ans and Stuart Ellis, Kerrie Hubbard and Kate Morris, Mina Bella Kreiter and Beth Ann Short, Karen Loehner and Ian Shickle, Troy John McCray and Todd Meisler and Sam and Alex Minch. Other events in February include life drawing an Esty Basics workshop and a Valentine Needle Felting class both by LeBrie Rich of Penfelt, and a Love Potion Body Products class by Joy Leising.
