Crafting Our Voices - Women's Creativity Group
Altered Books | Class or Workshop | Collage | DIY Alert Blog | Fabric | Paint | Paper | Reclaimed Materials | Sister Diane | Spiritual Art | Studio | WorkshopCrafting Our Voices
Leader: Art Therapist Serena Appel, MA
If you’re a woman who has ever wished you could make art or craft, but told yourself you “weren’t creative enough”; if you’re a working artist/writer/professional/etc. who keeps getting “stuck” in self-defeating patterns; or even if you just want to hang out with some crafty gals and have fun, this class may be for you.
Over 6 weeks, we will learn to separate reality from commonly held myths about who creative people are and how they think, learn new strategies to stimulate idea generation and discover our own unique “voices”, and learn ways to apply these skills towards art making as well throughout our daily lives.
No prior experience in art necessary, basic art/craft materials provided.
Saturdays 5/24, 5/31 & 6/7
from 10:30am-12:30pm
Members: $10.00 per session
Non-members: $15.00 per session
Punch cards applicable.
Rebel Rabbit Craft Fair
Art/Craft Show | Craft Show/Fair | School | Shopping | Sister DianePortland's second monthly craft fair, featuring handmade goods by local artists and designers.
Starting in May, the fourth Sunday of every month will bring with it a primo selection of clever crafters and their handiwork. Why? Because people need quality, locally made goods throughout the year, whether they're for birthdays, Mother's Days, graduations, Secretary's Days, or I-must-have-that-now days! Please see the Rebel Rabbit website for more information.
Glass: A site-specific installation by Melissa Dyne
Art/Craft Show | Gallery Show | Gallery/Museum | Sister DianeComposed of only a few physical elements, the installation will explore the increasingly blurred lines between craft and trade, industry and art. Focusing on experimentation and process, Dyne promises to bend, and even shatter, her glass panes during the course of the installation - as well as viewers' conceptions of the craft museum experience. The exhibition will also draw attention to the raw materiality of glass and its role in the public's everyday lives.
The installation explores the physical and material properties of glass in one of its most common forms: the window pane. The exhibition will display one large sheet of industrially-produced skyscraper glass and two wall-sized photographs of the warehouse in which the panes are produced. The pane, mounted on a wall, will slowly bend under its own weight, changing the light's reflection over time. The panes are typically installed in major office buildings around the world. The Museum will provide a complimentary brochure for the exhibition featuring essays by Kathy High, Robert Slifkin and Namita Gupta Wiggers. Please see the Museum website for more information.
Last Thursday Art Walk, on Alberta St.
Art/Craft Show | Demonstration | Festival | Learn Something | Meet Crafters | Open air or Park | Shopping | Sister DianeThere has been a "Last Thursday" on Alberta Street since 1997. If you've never been, it's quite the wild time during the summer months. Art on Alberta sponsors the event, which is held every month year round. The galleries, studios, restaurants and other art venues on the street open their doors for a celebratory evening of art. Generally the galleries are open between 5 to 9:30 p.m.
We publish a monthly Last Thursday walking map, which identifies the art activities, sponsored by Art on Alberta members. Visit the website to download a copy.
From Idea to Production: Craft in Conceptual Art Making
